Tips for Renters

Do you rent out your cottage or home? Take note of new infractions of bylaws in Madawaska Valley

During the April 5 council meeting, MV decided to charge violation fees for existing bylaws for rental-related complaints. This will apply to short-term rentals of rooms, homes and cottages that are rented for 30 days or less. Rental owners would be dinged for bylaws such as noise, waste and fire infractions. Established bed and breakfasts, hotels, trailer parks and campground do not fall under the municipality’s short term rental plan.

Violation fees will start $100 plus taxes for the second occurrence and double on each following infraction. Unpaid fees will be added to the associated tax roll.

TIPS FOR RENTERS

Welcome! We hope you enjoy your stay at Kamaniskeg Lake. Here are a few suggestions that will help you enjoy your stay and keep the lake healthy and beautiful.

  • Please go phosphate and chlorine free on any soaps, shampoos, detergents or other cleaners.
  • Bathe in the bathroom, not in the lake.
  • Be kind to our septic system. Don’t put food oil down the drain (freeze and discard in the garbage). Put facial tissue in the garbage, not down the toilet.
  • Please use our garbage disposal dump. (Give dump location and hours or alternative arrangements)
  • Enjoy fishing, but please don’t dump bait when you leave. Everything left over should go in the garbage.
  • Please make sure your boat is free of any plant or animal species before you put it in the lake.
  • Please enjoy campfires safely and ONLY when legally permitted based on the current municipal fire ban rating. Never leave your campfire unattended and douse it thoroughly when finished.
  • Fireworks are only permitted on certain occasions. (Post your municipality’s bylaw).
  • Please be considerate of our neighbours and limit noise especially after 11:00 p.m.
