The Municipality of Hastings Highlands is researching the feasibility of making changes to the method of councillor representation on Municipal Council. To that end they have posted on their website, http://www.hastingshighlands.ca, (under the black “News Just In” bar), a survey that they are requesting the electors to fill out and submit.
The Executive of KAPOA, after due deliberation, is opposed to any change to the existing system and urges KAPOA’s Hastings Highlands members to choose proposal #5, “(Proposal 5 _______ Current Ward System, Remain with current structure with no changes. TOTAL 7 MEMBERS.)”
It is the executives feeling that any change away from representation by ward to an “at large” system would be disadvantageous because there would be no guarantee that our area (the present ward 1) would have any representation at council.
