Around the Lake

River Road

At the Annual Meeting in May some concerns were expressed regarding the condition of River Road. Mark Freymond the Road Superintendent for Hastings Highlands advised they would be doing minor repairs this fall with major repairs being scheduled within the next five years.

Wolf Creek Dump Site

I have been addressed re concerns about fires in the Wolf Creek Dump Site. Some of our members have seen fire flames 30-40 feet high on the site when it is unattended. The Hastings Highland Waste Management Manager, Mark Freymond said that people are setting fires in the dump. This is a major concern for all of us as our homes, cottages and the environment are at risk. It is also driving the bears away from the dump causing them to go elsewhere for food they would normally scrounge from the dump.

Anyone witnessing a person setting a fire at the dump and is willing to testify to that fact please notify Mark Freymond at Hastings Highlands Township Office and that person will be charged and prosecuted. We are all aware of the results of the fires in Kelowna British Columbia this year.

Blackfish Bay

On behalf of the executive and myself I would like to welcome our new members from Blackfish Bay. We look forward to seeing you at our annual meeting in May, our Regatta and Corn Roast

Regatta

The Annual Regatta was held on August 2, 2003 with great weather and enough wind to make for an interesting sailboat race. This was a year for tie winners as J. D. Cameron and Jeff Michalecki were the winners of the Best Overall trophy. Mallorie Lyon and Nicole Buchanan tied and shared the Best Female Swimmer trophy. J. D. Cameron and Ryan Beecroft won the Best Male Swimmer trophy. John and Selicia Nicholson won the Sailing Race trophy.

Corn Roast

This year’s Corn Roast on Labour Day Weekend, served 20 dozen scrumptious corn to everyone at the beach. We had a draw for a free round of golf, donated by the Homestead at Wolf Ridge Golf Club. Don Shaver was our winner. Guitars around the campfire made for a pleasant evening.

Membership

We have only received a total of 138 paid memberships. If you would like to continue to receive this newsletter we must have your membership fees for this year.

Water Testing

Ontario Ministry of the Environment Lake Partner Program Report results have been delivered to Virginia Lyon. A copy of the very complex results of all the lakes in the program can be viewed at next years Annual Meeting. Our lake has been rated in the classification of Above Average.
