KAPOA Membership Handout
Kamaniskeg Area Property Owners Association ( KAPOA ) www.KAPOA.ca
Please join KAPOA in our efforts to improve both your own and your neighbours’ experience in the beautiful areas surrounding the Lake Kamaniskeg waterway.
KAPOA, originally started in 1971 with a regatta. It is our mission to help property owners with their concerns and preserve and protect our waterways and surrounding lands, wildlife and ecosystem.
KAPOA’s area is estimated to include 500 plus properties on waterways ranging from the Bark Lake dam, feeding Kamaniskeg, from Barry’s Bay past Blackfish Bay to Combermere and then Nageek Lake to Palmer Rapids.
Your $30 annual membership fee has avoided inflation, far better than municipal taxes, an issue of concern to all property owners.
KAPOA monitors issues important to all members and stakeholders in our area and remains alert to new concerns. Through this vigilance, KAPOA communicates on behalf of its members these alarms to municipalities and/or other authorities as your voice of self preservation.
How do you benefit as a member? A group of dedicated volunteers monitor various special interest areas, as listed in the chart below. Newsletters are emailed to your computer plus news bulletins or alerts are occasionally sent as required.
Recent efforts include promoting water quality by participating in lake water testing, brush bundle deposits to Kamaniskeg & Negeek Lakes and spawning bed augmentation to improve fish habitat, partnering with the Carlton University Geography & Environmental Studies Dept. to provide an educational field studies experience for Honours 3rd year students, and posting of speed signs along the Madawaska River.
Your KAPOA membership helps keep you informed about issues important to you while adding to our influence to help solve our common problems and promote our interests. Member education regarding septic systems; well water testing; municipal tax issues and analysis are other KAPOA benefits.
Future or ongoing projects include the KAPOA Poker Run (raising funds for St. Francis Valley Healthcare Foundation), the KAPOA Regatta, and lead tackle collection at all of our scheduled events.
