Annual Meeting

The annual meeting of K.A.P.O.A. will be held on Saturday, May 20, 2000 at 7PM in the Madawaska Valley District High School. This year elections will be for first-term directors. Please give some consideration to running for a position on the executive if you can spare the time.

Dues

To date we only have 38 paid memberships compared to 137 last year. We send out 383 newsletters. There are some 600 cottages on our water system, however we do not have all the cottagers listed. Any member wishing to pay their 2000 dues should please fill out the membership form and make your cheque payable to KAPOA, then mail to PO Box 297, Barrys Bay K0J 1B0.

Hinterland Beach

The beach annual cleanup will be on July 1st. Volunteers plan to spend Saturday morning working to prepare the beach for summer use. The beach will need to be raked as the winter ice creates a sand bern. We need volunteers to whip, scrub, and brush in the parking lot and boat ramp area, and the toilets may need to be cleaned. Volunteers are also needed to take care of the garbage during the summer each month. K.A.P.O.A. has received a donation of new garbage containers for the picnic area. Donations from several members in the past have helped pay for pumping of the toilets. Volunteers should meet on the beach at 9AM Saturday morning. Please bring your work gloves and tools. All help will be greatly appreciated.

Regatta

The annual regatta will be held at the Hinterland Beach Saturday August 5, 2000 with the rain date Sunday August 6, 2000. Again we will need volunteers to make this a success. Please let the executive know if you are able to help and which event you would be available to assist with. Hot dogs and cold drinks will be sold again this year. A voucher for free hot dogs and drinks will be given to each family that has paid their 2000 membership dues (Max 4 vouchers per family).

New Projects

President Brian Johnston requests that as many members as possible attend the annual meeting this year to discuss and vote on two new proposals. The boat ramp at Hinterland beach no longer exists, as the ice has totally destroyed the ramp. We would like to replace the ramp as cost-effective to the Association as possible. The second project would be to construct and eating Pavilion (post pillars with roof shelter) in the picnic area. When it rains everyone must take shelter in their cars. The shelter would provide protection from sun and rain. If the membership approves the changes we will need suggestion on how to construct these projects. Volunteers will be needed to help with the work.

Corn Roast

The corn roast will be help on Saturday evening September 2, 2000 at Hinterland Beach around the fire pit. All are welcome to enjoy numerous loads of scrumptious corn to be dipped in pots of melted butter and sprinkled with the ordinary salt and pepper to each individuals taste. KAPOA will supply the corn, seasonings and fire. Everyone is welcome.
