Attention: New Crown Land Forestry Plans
The Ministry of Natural Resources is currently revising the 10 year management plans for the crown land forests on Lake Kamaniskeg.
KAPOA encourages you to get involved in this process and up to speed on the MNR plans. Being informed will allow you understand how logging will impact your lake views and enjoyment of the area.
Importantly, there is an open house in Bancroft this Saturday to preview the Bancroft Minden plan (details below).
The crown land on Kamaniskeg is managed by 2 forestry plans (Bancroft Minden and Ottawa Valley). They roughly follow the municipal districts. Below, we have short articles on each plan as well more information is available on https://www.kapoa.ca/forestry
Bancroft Minden: Open House This Weekend
On Satuday June 5th, MNR will be hosting an Open House in Bancroft to preview the Bancroft Minden 10-year forestry plan. Click here to see Bancroft Minden map of impacted area.
The open house will take place between 1pm and 5pm at Club 580, 164 Hastings Street N (Beside Millenium Park). To read full MNR announcement click here.
Here’s are a few points that have hit our radar screen based on draft plan and discussions:
- There are significant Contingency Areas around lake that could see harvesting and clear cutting. Contingency areas are harvested when planned areas are not harvestable.
- New zoning plan permits cutting right up to shoreline.
- MNR has expanded number of tree species they are harvesting.
KAPOA encourages you to attend this Open House and personally let MNR know your thoughts on the plan. Importantly, let them know there should be no shoreline cutting.
Ottawa Valley: Open House Expected This Summer
The MNR is also developing the 10 year plan for the crown land forests in the Ottawa Valley.Click here to see Ottawa Valley Forestry Plan map.
We expect there to be an open house in early July regarding the Ottawa Valley forests.
KAPOA AGM: Saturday July 17th at 10am
