On Kamaniskeg Lake we are blessed with miles and miles of undeveloped shoreline. Much of the undeveloped shoreline and land close to the lake is Crown land managed by the Ontario Ministry of Natural Resources (MNR). Every 10 years a forestry plan is developed by MNR in conjunction with industry and local citizens’ groups. Each year in accordance with the plan, MNR sets an Annual Work Schedule which outlines the forestry activities that will be taking place during that year. (See maps below).
The lake is split between the Bancroft-Minden Forest Management Unit (managed out of Bancroft MNR office) and the Ottawa-Valley Forest Management Unit (managed out of the Pembroke MNR office). Both offices have been working to develop the forest management plan for 2011-2021. At the 2010 KAPOA Annual General Meeting, we presented the plans that were in development. KAPOA representatives met with the MNR in Bancroft and Pembroke on multiple occasions and worked with the Local Citizens Committee representatives to review and provide input on the plan. Individual property owners also had the opportunity to provide input to KAPOA or MNR. The plans are now available for final review on the MNR web site.
