The Annual Work Schedule for 2012-2013 shows harvesting will take place around Bark Lake on Harris Bay (or Potash Lake). Some Renewal/Tending operations will occur up river from Bark Lake near Madawaska.
Area 1015 west of Harris Bay will see a mix of Selection and Shelterwood cutting. Area 1041 on the east side of Harris Bay will see a mix of Selection and Clearcut operations.
These areas can be viewed in greater detail on the Annual Work Schedule Operations maps: click on http://ontario.ca/forestplans, select “Bancroft-Minden Forest 220”, click on “Annual Work Schedule 2012-2013”, expand Maps, expand Operations, click on “Operations 1015 00”
For the Ottawa-Valley Forest Management Unit, the Annual Work Schedule does not show any logging activities adjacent to the Kamaniskeg or the Madawaska south to Palmer Rapids:
At the top of the map there are some harvest operations occurring north of Hwy 60 between Carson Lake and Spectacle Lake. Some areas off Rockingham Rd. north of Diamond Lake are scheduled to be harvested (pale green) and areas west of Diamond Lake will see renewal and maintenance.
The plan also shows road construction of 4.1 km from Hwy 62 just north of Parcher Ponds away from Kamaniskeg towards Gun Lake. This overlaps with the E109 snowmobile trail and Thomas P Murray Recreational Trails Red Pine Trail and Tom’s Lookout. We have sent an inquiry to the Ontario Ministry of Natural Resources for more information regarding these activities and the impact on those trails.
